1-on-1 Therapy
Through building a relationship grounded in curiosity, creativity, and client consent, I draw out clients’ personal needs, goals, values, and knowledge from their depths of experience through art and/or talk therapy.
If desired, I can offer psychoeducation tools grounded in somatics, and anti-carceral, trauma-informed perspectives that value the body-mind-community connection.
In therapy sessions, I work to provide a space and interpersonal dynamic that supports clients in:
- self-expression and curiosity about the self, recognizing patterns, values, desires, points of tension and growth edges;
- learning about, practicing, and maintaining boundaries;
- coming into the present, connecting to their felt sense and body-mind connections, and working with these in the healing process;
- getting to the roots of shame, anger, depression, and anxiety, and building skills to both honour and navigate these experiences;
- building self-esteem, self-compassion, and confidence;
- having difficult conversations about trauma and experiences connected to systemic oppression (including racism, gender-based violence, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and poverty);
- feeling seen, heard, and connected with.
Trauma-informed therapy
My roots are in peer-support with people who have experienced gender-based/sexualized violence. As such, trauma-informed therapy is core to my approach. Trauma-informed therapy centres safety, client choice, recognizing and honouring the effects of trauma on physical, mental, emotional, and relational well-being (including respect for differences in culture), and supportive referrals and resources as needed.
